snug harbor Marina's humble BEGINNINGS

John “Jack” Witt discovered the quaint village of Pentwater and Snug Harbor Marina in 1977 on his return voyage from the Chicago-Mackinac Sailing Race. He purchased the marina in 1979. Along with his mother Annette, sister Alice, and a small crew, Jack worked tirelessly to rebuild the infrastructure and amenities of the marina. Since purchasing the marina, Jack has replaced both the main office and service department, shower and restroom facilities, completely overhauled the electricity and plumbing systems, replaced the dock systems, removed and replaced approximately 1200 feet of seawall, and installed new fuel tanks, fuel lines, and dispensers.

Over the past four decades, Jack has assembled a crew of professional and expert staff that has led to a premier level of customer service. Jack’s sons, Jonathan and Andrew, attended and graduated from the Marine Mechanics Institute in 2012 and have expanded Snug Harbor Marina’s capabilities to work on the most modern marine technology, such as Mercury MerCruiser, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Volvo Penta, and YANMAR.
